“I have tried loving people, but they can never be trusted, but dogs? They are the only ones who stay loyal and more trustworthy than human beings. The love that they pour on you, you will never find it anywhere else!”  

Says Usha. A woman who wears her heart on sleeves when it comes to dogs. Being a single woman taking up such a task isn’t an easy thing to do, but here is Usha breaking all those society barriers for the animals that she dearly loves. 

 

Usha has seen these innocent puppies, dogs eat trash, even faeces from the streets instead of normal food. She has seen the amount of pain, hunger, thirst these dogs carry as they walk tirelessly in search of food. 

She has also seen many human beings portray their anger and frustration on these dogs and how the people hit dogs right in front of her. As she witnesses all of this, her heart goes out to these voiceless souls. Today, she alone manages to feed more than 100 dogs on the streets.

Usha has been doing this for the last 25 years. Every day she wakes up at 3am, and starts preparing the dog food, makes roti’s from scratch, applies ghee and provides milk for the strays. 

Although she has been doing this for years, today she shares some of her burdens, some challenges that she alone faces with us… 

 

There are times when people don’t allow her to feed the dogs because they complain of dog messing places, hence she even took up the role of cleaning the dog’s faeces on the streets. Sadly this is not the only thing she has been tackling. 

Another reason for her sharing her story with us is that she doesn’t have enough money to keep this mission on. Today she has reached her height of helplessness. Everyday feeding so many dogs, giving them the required medicines, making sure they are also safe kept, requires not just love but also money that Usha doesn’t have.
